Quantum Jump, a six-year-old NZ-based strategic marketing agency, has officially crossed the Tasman and set up shop in Sydney.
Mumbrella can reveal it has appointed Rachel Wintle as its Australian general manager. Wintle will work closely with founder and CEO Ben Goodale to build the agency’s Australian client base.
Quantum Jump launched in 2019 in New Zealand, offering “heavy-duty” strategic thinking, creative excellence, and data-driven marketing capabilities — particularly CRM, customer experience and loyalty, and digital advertising.
Goodale said over its six years, Quantum Jump has grown year-on-year — so much so its Auckland office is running out of desks for staff. Its clients include Mitre 10 NZ, Firth, Sky TV, the Wellington Phoenixes, AA, Farmlands, and Dementia NZ.
As opportunities have come up, the idea of an Australian office became more enticing.
“I’ve always loved being involved in the Australian market, it’s an exciting place to be,” he told Mumbrella. “The relationship between New Zealand and Australia has a great sense of togetherness and a kinship, and when a client needed us to be in Sydney, we started putting the plans in place.”
His first job was to hire someone to lead the expansion — and he said he was “blessed” to find Wintle.
Wintle returned to Australia in March to join Quantum Jump, following a six-year stint in New York. There, she launched Genero into the US market, working with clients including Meta, L’Oréal, and Youtube for three years. She also spent three years as a business director at Anomaly, where she led the Amazon Ads account.
She said she was drawn to the agency because of its point of difference — its niche strength in CRM, marketing automation, and loyalty.
“I know that there are, of course, other agencies that can do all that stuff, but in this new, emerging, thriving, indie landscape, that really stuck out to me as something I hadn’t seen as much of,” she told Mumbrella.
She said being back in Australia at a time when the industry is experiencing significant change — M&As, the emergence of AI, the rise of indies — she thinks there is an appetite for heavy-duty thinking and creative expertise.
She admitted, however, that because of how saturated the market is, she does have some nerves about launching in Australia. But she remains positive, telling Mumbrella these nerves motivate her.
“I think if you didn’t have nerves, you wouldn’t be aware of the competitive market and you wouldn’t be doing your job justice,” she said.
Quantum Jump’s entry into Australia will be “organic”, according to Wintle: “We will go where the business grows.”
It doesn’t have “massive overheads” that it needs to justify, so she is optimistic about taking opportunities as they come.
Goodale added that he and Wintle recognise the challenges of working with Australian clients without an Australian office, so just being on the ground is the current focus.
“We didn’t want to have to start telling everyone we’re in Australia, but not actually physically being in Australia,” he said. “So as we build out the team around Rachel, the focus will remain in Sydney, being present.”
